The 'marrying' of major components on an automotive assembly line is an application for which Handling Specialty provides effective solutions. For this North American automotive manufacturer, Handling Specialty was asked to incorporate a custom lift design into an existing AGV system. The primary design consideration was related to weight in that the lift could not exceed the existing system's weight specifications. The resulting 2,000 lb. capacity lift achieved this while at the same time maintaining a limit of 1/8" deflection with the load. The lift, while mounted on an AGV, enters a two-person operator station and raises a vehicle engine into a chassis. Using overhead devices, operators then bolt the engine into the suspended chassis. In total, 120 of these units were designed and manufactured by Handling Specialty.
