Outline

Nowhere has changing technology and Handling Specialty's expertise in managing it been more evident than at Bellagio, a $1.4 billion hotel-casino-theater complex in Las Vegas.

As systems integrator for the Theater's stage, Handling Specialty's challenge was to design and construct a lifting system that could be raised and lowered in a pool containing 1.5 million gallons of water. The theater's stage was designed for the performance exploits of Cirque du Soleil and its production "O".

Four custom hydraulically-actuated lifts raise and lower the four-piece stage which measures 3,650 square feet. Fully extended sections of the stage are synchronized using temposonic probes. The complete mastery of the operation is directed from a communications center.

The success of this engineering-manufacturing feat resulted in Handling Specialty being recognized by Guinness Publishing in London, England. Handling Specialty was granted the world record for the largest underwater stage hydraulic lift system.
