Handling Specialty's ability to adapt customized solutions to any environment was demonstrated with the manufacture of an extremely compact coil car for Allegheny Ludlum. The challenge of the application lay in designing a self-propelled lift that could fit into an existing pit which could not be modified. Fitting within 3/4" of the pit walls, the 50,000 lb. capacity lift measures only 64" wide and 84" long. This custom lift's function is to remove coils of steel from the end of a processing line and transport them to a shipping area. Polyurethane-covered rollers ensure that the coils are not damaged during handling. Other features of the lift include an integral power pack; central lubrication access; and anti-friction bearings at all pivots. Having completed full-load tests, the lift was delivered interface ready for the existing control system.
