Custom Mechanical Lifts Used in Variable Tiered Seating System in the Jazz at Lincoln Center
(Niagara Falls, NY October 18, 2004) Handling Specialty is pleased to announce that it has supplied four custom mechanical scissor lifts and eight scissor sets to PRG Scenic Technologies, a division of the Production Resources Group. L.L.C., for integration into an adjustable tiered seating system for the Allen Room at the Jazz at Lincoln Center.
The four custom mechanical lifts supplied by Handling Specialty were integrated by PRG Scenic Technologies with a guide/drive assembly, a base wagon and a floor platform to create the retractable risers. These risers can be retracted beneath an adjacent stationary tier of seating to create a larger floor level area for dancing or banquet tables. The risers can also be configured to create the first of seven levels of auditorium style seating. Each of the four risers is individually motorized and controlled for maximum usage flexibility.
Handling Specialty’s central screw actuated (CSA) scissor lifts were selected for the retractable risers due to the fact that mechanically actuated lifts can be easily controlled via programmable logic controller (PLC) and precisely positioned with zero drift at any elevation. The lifts were designed to rise 25” in 30 seconds and offer a compact collapsed height of only 12”. The units also provide a lifting capacity of 5,000 lbs. each and a static capacity of 15,000 lbs.
The eight scissor sets were engineered and manufactured by Handling Specialty to provide a guiding mechanism and lateral stability to a powertrain network of bevel gear jacks designed by PRG Scenic Technologies. These lift systems were used to create the four lift platforms that comprise the remaining two reconfigurable levels of seating in the Allen Room.
