Robotic Rack Loading Application Gets a Lift from Handling Specialty

(Niagara Falls, NY July 23, 2003) Handling Specialty recently supplied a custom ball screw-actuated scissor lift table ready for integration with a power roller bed top and a fully automated conveyor system.
The 8,300 lb. capacity table was ruggedly designed to cycle 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. During each cycle, the lift receives an empty rack at the lowest elevation of 30 inches. The lift then raises the empty rack 5 inches where it is clamped into place on the lift. The lift then raises to a height of 49 inches and the first frame is loaded onto the rack via robot. Once the robot has cleared the area, the table lowers 14 inches. At this elevation, another 5 frames are loaded onto the rack via robot. When fully loaded, the power roller bed on top of the lift is activated and the loaded rack is transferred to another conveyor. The lift then returns to the lowest elevation to begin the next cycle.
Built to meet automotive specifications, the lift features several locking systems. A pneumatic locking pin system is used at the 35” and 49” height to lock the table in place during loading. A secondary anti-fall device (patent pending) was also incorporated into the lift. Finally, safety lock up bars were included to permit safe access to the lift mechanism during maintenance.
