Product Press Release
Custom Lift Developed for Cleanroom 1000 Manufacturing Facility
(Grimsby, ON April 14, 2005) Handling Specialty is pleased to announce that it has supplied a custom Cleanroom 1000 lift for use in a facility currently under construction by iFire Technology Corp. in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. iFire Technology’s existing research and development cleanroom is being expanded from 15,000 sq. ft. to 25,000 sq. ft. to accommodate a pilot manufacturing facility for flat panel television display modules, based on its proprietary thick-film dielectric electroluminescent (TDEL) technology.
The custom mechanical lift engineered and manufactured by Handling Specialty will be used to move a wheeled cart of in-process product 48” vertically from one elevation to another within the Class 1000 cleanroom environment. A screw actuated scissor lift design was chosen not only for its inherent cleanliness of operation but also for its smooth, non-jarring motion which prevents damage to delicate loads.
To meet the Cleanroom 1000 requirements, full perimeter, wash-down friendly bellows were attached to the stainless steel lift platform and to the painted base frame to seal any potential contaminants within the lift itself. Positive/negative venting through the base of the lift via a conduit permits airflow between the lift and an adjacent non-rated area isolated from the cleanroom. Prior to shipment, the lift underwent stringent inspection and testing to ensure compliance with all of the cleanroom requirements and applicable Ontario electrical codes.
Additional lift design features include fixed handrails on the two sides of the platform that are not adjacent to the access doors, maintenance access via removable platform sections, and an operator push button control station. A flashing pilot light / audible alert indicating lift motion and a pilot light that signals when the lift reaches each elevation were safety features included in the control station. The controls were also shipped interface-ready for the client’s interlock system which keeps the access doors sealed until the lift reaches the appropriate elevation.
